Agricultural Production in Qatar’s Hot Arid Climate

چکیده

Agriculture has played an essential role in the provision of food and been a major factor overall economic development for societies around world millennia. In past, agriculture hot, arid countries like Qatar faced many challenges, primary one being dearth water irrigation. Historically this severely limited Qatar’s development, which was based largely on resource exploitation, pearl fishing, only more recently, exploitation its oil gas reserves subsequently led to great wealth. This paper gives overview recent evolution agricultural sector investigates future trends that tackle challenges hot climate availability resources. Specifically, review analyses potential develop national security strategy significant expansion production country. We policy actions implemented address supply chain caused by 3.5-year blockade imposed adjacent Arab Gulf States, discussing renewed interest enhanced must provide some aspects implications policymakers would logically ensue.

Effects of water desalination on milk production and several blood constituents of Holstein cows in a hot arid climate

Fourteen primiparous Holstein cows (180.0 ± 4.3 days in milk) with a mean (±SD) daily milk yield of 35.0 ± 1.3 kg and a body condition score of 3.2 ± 0.2 were allotted into two groups (n = 7), and were fed a ration consisting of (dry matter basis) 35% corn silage, 25% alfalfa hay and 40% concentrates. Salt was provided free choice. The experiment was performed during the period of heat stress, ...

A fitful fungus from a hot, arid climate increases grain yield in cool-cultivated barley

The fungus Piriformospora indica was first isolated from plants growing in arid, hot desert conditions and has been shown to have significant potential as a biocontrol and biofertilising organism in barley under optimal growth conditions. However, it was not thought to be effective in plants grown in low temperatures and has consequently not been well tested in cold-stressed crops. This study s...

Investigation of thermal comfort conditions of central courtyard houses in hot and arid climate Case study: Isfahan houses

Increasing the population of cities and the growth and development of urban planning on the one hand and climate change on the other hand has affected the thermal balance of cities and has created thermal islands, so attention to the impact of design on the thermal comfort of urban spaces has become important. The study of the thermal performance of yards as common spaces between urban scale an...

Modelling Agricultural Production Risk and the Adaptation to Climate Change

A model that integrates biophysical simulations in an economic model is used to analyze the impact of climate change on crop production. The biophysical model simulates future plantmanagement-climate relationships and the economic model simulates farmers’ adaptation actions to climate change using a nonlinear programming approach. Beyond the development of average yields, special attention is d...
